The difference between studio lighting design and stage lighting design

The difference between studio lighting design and stage lighting design

Stage lighting design is mainly for theatrical stage performance lighting design, studio lighting design is for TV program recording lighting design. The stage lighting design is facing the live audience during the drama performance; The studio lighting design is mainly facing the audience in front of the TV, and more importantly, taking into account the TV picture effect after broadcast, small series for you to share the difference between studio lighting design and stage lighting design.

1, avoid the TV picture "black zone"

"Black area" means that there is a large dark part in the TV picture, which makes the picture appear depressed and empty, affecting the broadcast effect of the TV show. Generally speaking, there is no concept of "black area" in stage lighting, because stage lighting only needs to consider the visual picture of the human eye is comfortable and suitable. In the studio lighting design, the lighting engineer should fully communicate with the director and the photographer, know the camera Angle of view and composition in advance, and avoid "black areas".

2, lighting exposure requirements are different

For the naked problem of lamps, the stage requirements are relatively strict, especially the realistic drama performed on the frame stage, such as "Teahouse", "Thunderstorm" and other drama performances, to hide the lamps as much as possible to avoid disturbing the viewer's visual experience due to the exposure of lamps. For studio lighting, many studio lamps are directly exposed, because the camera only shoots in a certain area of the studio, as long as the lamps do not appear in the TV picture.

3, the use of "hard light" and "soft light"

The use of "hard light" and "soft light" is a very big difference between studio lighting design and stage lighting design. Hard light refers to the light that is more direct, the difference between light and dark of the subject is large, the highlight point is brighter, and the shadow edge is clearer, such as LED spotlight; Soft light generally refers to the scattering is relatively strong, the difference between light and shade of the illuminated object is small, the highlight point is relatively soft, and the shadow is relatively soft, such as LED film and television flat lights.

On the theatrical stage, spotlights are usually used as the top light, and if the studio lights use LED spotlights as the top light, it will lead to stiff characters' shadows, which are not suitable for the picture requirements of news or interview programs. For small and medium-sized studios, the lighting usually requires the character to be soft, do not appear blunt shadows and black areas and other phenomena, so the general use of soft light lamps, lamps diffuse reflection degree is relatively large. In the studio lighting, LED film and television flat lights are usually used to give the character cloth light, side light, etc., and LED spotlights are used as backlight lamps for character modeling.
